Scribbles
Much like the first page in a journal, the first blog post is the most intimidating (hopefully). I made this website almost exactly a year ago and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it, but I knew I wanted it to be perfect. So, there it sat, untouched for literally a year.
I’m still not entirely sure what I want to do with this site, but I’ve recently received some great advice. When someone decides to begin journaling, the hardest part is usually starting. You open the notebook and you see a blank page, it’s full of opportunities and endless possibilities. Now you must decide what’s on the cover page and how its formatted. But what if you screw up, smudge up the ink, or decide half way through the journal that it serves a different purpose than you originally planned? If you aren’t careful the first page of journal can stop you from ever starting. You’ll stay up late at night just waiting for you’re a-ha moment. The moment you realize how you want to start your journal. The exact formatting of the page, what content goes on it.
For many, this a-ha moment never comes. That is why the advice I received recently was so useful. Someone told me that the very first thing they do when they get a brand-new notebook is they take a pen and scribble all over the front page. Reducing the expectations of perfection and just allowing them to start. It will never get worst than that first page and your mind is freed and allowed to start.
As silly as this is I think it’s exactly what I need to start using this site, so here it is. Welcome to my first page scribble. There are probably typos, and by the time you’re reading this I guarantee I have rewritten these 4 or 5 times (**Future Jordan: it was seven times to be exact). I’m still not happy with it and I never will be, but it serves its purpose.
Accepting that this post is never going to be perfect is going to allow me to start and begin discovering how I want to do this, and eventually determine its style.
